About Me
Hey there! I’m Trevor McGarrah (pronounced McGarr, rhymes with car), high school computer science teacher by day, unexpected content creator on nights and weekends.
For years, I joked with my students that teachers couldn’t possibly compete with TikTok and Instagram. It’s become increasingly difficult to hold students’ attention long enough to teach them anything meaningful.
Then one day, a few students invited me to join a silly lunch break video. They insisted I learn a trending TikTok dance. I hesitated at first, but after some persistent nudging, I gave in. That video, followed by a surprise cameo in another student's post at a robotics competition, sparked an idea. What if I leaned into this whole social media thing...not just to entertain, but to connect with students on the platforms they already use every day?
I started making lip sync videos as a creative outlet and a way to meet students where they are. It began quietly, with just a couple of posts and a few students in the know. But word spread fast. Now even students and teachers who don’t follow me are seeing my videos show up on their feeds. With that attention came an opportunity. I realized I could use this platform not just to make people smile, but to share encouragement, perspective, and teachable moments too.
Somewhere along the way, a few students dug up an old, hilariously edited image of my face on the Giga Chad meme. And just like that, Giga McGarrah was born. What started as an inside joke got a second life. When I teased the idea of putting it on a t-shirt, the response was instant: “DO IT!”
So I did.
Now, along with the motivational content and lip syncs, I’ve launched a store featuring the pop art–style Giga McGarrah image, available on t-shirts, hoodies, stickers, and more. Who knows, maybe I’ll add more content for sale in the future. It’s part fun, part satire, and a whole lot of heart. I'm not doing this to become rich or famous. I just want to bring joy and inspiration to as many people as possible.
At the end of the day, this is all about finding creative ways to connect, inspire, and bring a little unexpected joy into the lives of students and anyone else who joins the journey.
Thanks for stopping by. And remember, sometimes the best way to make an impact is by not taking yourself too seriously.
